The Prime Minister used today’s short briefing to repeat the government’s key message, urging people to stay at home. He also thanked the 405,000 people who have signed up to be NHS Volunteers, delivering medicines, driving patients home and to appointments and phoning people who are alone at home.
Testing is becoming a significant issue. The government believes that those who are arriving at hospital are getting tested and that is being ramped up. They are very keen to test NHS workers, and then the wider public, for antibodies which would allow NHS workers, in particular, to return to work. It was also revealed that the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rishi Sunak MP, will tomorrow reveal a package designed to support the 5 million self-employed who are at risk as a result of the economic crisis.
